Deter Intruders with these window security features
Your home is where you should feel most safe. To have peace of mind, we often invest in security systems and other methods to deter burglars. However, have you considered whether your windows are providing the best defense against intruders?
Most home invasions are over in a matter of minutes. Typically, a burglar wants to quickly get into your home, grab something of value, and get out as soon as possible. Tightly securing any entry point to your home makes it harder for a thief to steal from you. Approximately, one-fourth of home break-ins occur because a thief has entered through a window as they are often overlooked by homeowners as a vulnerable point of entry.
Because safety and security are among the top priorities at Expo Home Improvement, our windows are built from the ground up to keep your home secure. Our Anlin Del Mar windows are AAMA Gold Forced Entry Certified, meaning they've passed the most rigorous tests in the industry as defined by the American Architectural Manufacturers Association. These tests are carried out by accredited independent laboratories and analyze structural performance under wind loading, resistance to air leakage and water penetration, and most importantly, forced entry resistance.
To keep your home protected, our windows have several security-minded features. First, continuous interlocking rails block intruders from "jimmying" the lock with a screwdriver. In addition, all of our large and medium-sized windows have enhanced security with dual locks. Finally, you can rest assured that you'll know whether your windows are locked. With right and left-handed locks that are engineered to always have the lock lever pointed downward when locked, you can tell at a glance if you've left a window unlocked.
However, very desperate thieves will sometimes try to break the glass on a window to quickly "smash and grab" items in your home. Our double-strength glass is twice as strong as the industry standard and twice as hard to break at thicknesses of 3.2mm for small windows and 5mm for larger ones. Also, some thieves will try to use a putty knife to quietly remove a pane of glass without breaking it. That's simply not possible with our windows because the main glass-to-frame seal is on the interior, unlike many of our competitors. Even if the exterior glaze bead is removed, it's virtually impossible for an intruder to remove the glass without breaking the glass and making an extremely loud noise.
